best budget SLA printer out of the box

One of the best in its class is the inexpensive Longer Orange30 3D printer for photopolymer printing. It has a high 2K print resolution, a large model building area, and also works out of the box without any problems. Due to its simplicity, the Orange30 model is suitable for beginners, and due to its high quality and high print accuracy (up to 10 microns), the printer is suitable for professional and hobby printing.

All models and consumables are now available from stock — fast delivery, with a guarantee.

Introduction

In fact, the story with the choice of printer was not so big — I have already been using an excellent representative of Longer Orange 10 SLA printers for about a year, or rather, its honest clone Alfawize SLA, which is presented in the title picture (with a green cap) . The qualitative development of this model is the Longer Orange 30, it is a 3D printer with an even larger print area, higher print speed, as well as a resolution of 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) at almost the same cost. The printers are currently in stock and ready to ship. Consumables are also available.

A detailed description is available on the Longer3D official website. In short, the Longer Orange 10 is an entry-level SLA printer, for all its reliability, the main advantage is the price. The Longer Orange 30 is one of the cheapest 2K resin printers around. Probably, a self-assembly printer costs the same amount or even more. For more information about choosing a photopolymer printer for hobby and professional printing, see a separate article-collection on iXBT. For beginners, you should look at inexpensive FDM printers.

Description and appearance of the Orange30 printer

The printer is shipped assembled and ready for use. To start, you will need to install a print table, which is dismantled for transportation, as well as assemble a protective cover.

The printer is a massive (~7 kg) device with a vertical column along which the table moves.

All electronics and Z-axis drive are built into the base, movement is carried out using a T8 screw and MGN15 rails. Working stroke 17 cm in height. The printing itself is carried out in a tray measuring 120 x 68 mm, a photopolymer is poured into it. The bathtub is metal, removable. The bottom of the bath is covered with FEP film. Ventilation openings are provided in the housing to remove air from the UV matrix.

The interfaces are all installed on the rear panel. This is a USB drive input — the printer provides model preview and offline printing. A little lower is a switch and a power input (standard DC5525 socket).

Appearance of the Longer Orange 30 3D printer with the casing installed — the printer is ready to print.

One of the advantages of such a printer is a completely closed printing process, a compact body — only 20 x 20 x 40 cm. Nothing superfluous, nothing gets in the way on the table.

Of the features I will highlight: a coupling is installed on the screw (5 x 8 mm), along Z there is a special nut to compensate for the movement backlash. Rather, the position of the carriage controls the limit switch.

Printer Package

The package includes everything you need for the first run, and in general for printing. The kit includes not only a brochure with instructions, but also a USB drive with an electronic version of the manual and videos. Also included is a powerful power source, spatula, spare materials.

The manual contains everything you need for the first steps and a quick start of printing.

Separately, I will highlight the presence of plastic playing cards — this is an effective and easy way to clean the bath. In addition, we put a pair of protective gloves, filters for photopolymer from 3M, paper towels, spare FEP film (great, 2 pcs in an envelope), and a set of keys for maintenance and repair.

The power supply is standard.

Power 72 W, output 12V.

Connecting a printer is easy even for those who have never used 3D printing.

Protective cover assembly

To reduce the dimensions, the acrylic casing is shipped disassembled. Before starting work, the casing must be assembled. It is not difficult. It consists of five plates with grooves, from which a transparent cube is assembled.

Assembled without glue, the kit includes special corners for convenience, fixed with rubber bands from the kit.

Appearance of the assembled casing. Simple and effective. Acrylic blocks UV radiation, protecting the resin in the bath — it can be there for a long time.

Preparation for work

To print immediately after unpacking, you will need to set up and align the print table.

Fastening is carried out by one screw lamb.

But it is very important to align the table with the LCD module at the base of the printer.

To do this, turn on the printer, look for the desired setting in the menu.

By the way, here is the on-screen menu with the current firmware version. You can update the firmware from the drive, download from the office. site.

We loosen the four fixing screws of the table.

Go to the Move menu, select table alignment.

The table is lowered to the lowest stop. We check the tightness of the table to the film. We twist and tighten the screws. Everything, the printer is calibrated.

Just in case, I checked the operation of the UV matrix. In the menu, you can check its temperature, as well as turn it on and off.

Illumination is even, shines powerfully. On the first models of SLA printers, the matrices were noticeably weaker (for example, on the popular Sparkmaker). The powerful UV matrix in Longer provides fast exposure, fast printing.

Pour the photopolymer into the container. You can use any photopolymer, the photo shows an inexpensive resin from Anycubic.

Install the drive with the model.

We turn on the printer.

By the way, a few words about the preparation of the model.

LongerWare Software

As for the software — the LongerWare slicer, the distribution kit and instructions can be found both at the office. website, and on the included USB stick. There are no special requirements for both the computer and the user; during installation, I recommend that you immediately select your printer model in the settings.

The process of processing the model is carried out in just a few clicks (add -> move / scale / rotate -> place stands -> cut the model -> save to the drive).

Stands are placed in automatic mode quite well, you can not touch this moment for beginners.

We install the drive in the printer, turn it on, select the File menu, then the desired model file.

A separate plus of Longer printers is a preview of the model and an approximate print time. Very comfortably. There is a pause during printing — you can check the models and add photopolymer if the model is large.

We cover with a cap, start printing.

Print result

After printing, I remove the table and separate the model. The table is removed and put back in one movement (one set screw), the calibration is not violated.

A spatula is used to separate the model, try not to damage the surface of the table or the printed model.

Pictured is an action camera mount.

I recommend doing a short backlight (30-60 seconds) in UV rays. For this, a conventional UV incandescent lamp, a UV energy-saving lamp or UV LEDs are suitable.

By the way, supports are removed simply — mechanically, that is, by cutting or biting off.

The print result is amazing — the print speed of some models exceeds that of FDM printers. The accuracy and quality of printing is unattainable for FDM printers — this is up to 10 microns, the print layers are simply not visible to the eye. This printer is great for prototyping in the office, for starting a business, for modeling — it turns out great realistic additions to scale models. Suitable for printing designed cases for REA, for jewelry and much, much more.

The most important advantage of the Longer Orange 30 printer is its excellent value for money. The printer is suitable for beginners — it does not require special skills for printing. I will try to continue to cover the topic of SLA printing in the iXBT blog, and if you have questions, ask.
