More recently, almost most of the smartphones relevant to the electronics market at any given time had one common problem — a painful lack of battery capacity. The complaints of users, exhausted by the constant “not living out” of the smartphone at least until the evening, were practically ignored by gadget manufacturers for a long time, and now, in 2019-2020, there was almost a revolution in the industry. Now anyone with a very modest budget can use a smartphone with a battery of 4500 mAh and above.

The editors of Expertology magazine have prepared for you an extended review of the best smartphones with powerful batteries as of December 2020. We have made a special emphasis on top-end smartphones, as users in the premium category have always reacted especially painfully to weak batteries. We singled out the record holders of autonomy and completely in a separate nomination — the podium belongs to different models of Samsung Galaxy.

Rating of the best smartphones with powerful batteries

The best cheap smartphones with the most powerful batteries

Let’s start with models that are equipped with batteries with a capacity of at least 4500 mAh, cost minimal money and at the same time work, are quite time-tested and have serious positive feedback from users.

Vsmart Joy 3+ 4/64GB

Rating: 4.7

Vsmart Joy 3+ 4/64GB

And we will start with almost the only smartphone available on the Russian market, which, as of the end of 2020, would combine these three mandatory qualities: a powerful battery, acceptable quality, decent functionality and a cost of less than 10 thousand rubles. This is Joy 3+ manufactured by the Vietnamese company Vsmart. And, frankly, the characteristics of a smartphone at this price lead to a pleasant surprise.

The minimum battery capacity of 4500 mAh accepted by our experts in this review is even exceeded in this model — here the battery potential is as much as 5000 mAh. But this could still keep it from rave reviews, because there are enough such configurations in 2020. And the real pleasant surprise is that the Vietnamese have equipped even such an ultra-cheap model with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging via a USB Type-C connector. This says it all about the energy potential of Vsmart Joy 3+ — the combination is simply incredible. We only add that in talk mode, the smart can work up to 40 hours, and in audio listening mode — more than 100 hours.

The type of fast charging unambiguously alludes to the manufacturer of the processor. Here, the center of the electronics is the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632. The RAM is 4 GB, the built-in storage is 64 GB. Memory cards are supported, albeit a small amount — up to 128 GB, but the slot is dedicated and does not intersect with the operator’s second SIM card.

The characteristics of the screen, when viewed in its purest form, are modest, but with an eye to the price — more than sufficient. The screen itself is large — 6.52 inches. The IPS matrix is not particularly outstanding, but, again, without obvious flaws. Resolution — HD 1600×720. The dot density is 269 per inch, the aspect ratio is 20:9.

The configuration of the cameras, it would seem, is modest, but when analyzing this characteristic, it is worth keeping in mind the cost of a smartphone all the time. After all, here for 8-9 thousand rubles, depending on the point of sale, we have the following. The rear unit includes three modules: the main camera with a sensor resolution of 13 megapixels, an ultra-wide angle of 8 megapixels 120 ° and a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. Front camera — 8 megapixels with bokeh creation, beauty mode and other software additions. On the main camera, among other things, you can shoot video in resolutions up to FullHD 1920×1080 and frame rates up to 60 fps.

Communications in this smartphone are standard, without any surprises, except for the NFC module, which in this price category would have been just an unthinkable gift until recently. It is frustrating that the wireless modules — Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.2, and even cellular communications and satellite navigation do not always work confidently. But this is not a total problem, only a part of users encounter this phenomenon, and even then not constantly.

Advantages

  • good IPS screen;
  • decent, as for such a price, camera configuration;
  • you can write video FullHD 1920×1080 60 fps;
  • dedicated slot for memory cards;
  • Type C;
  • fast charging;
  • the lowest price on the market in this category;
  • incredible functionality for such a price;
  • NFC
  • standard 3.5 mm headphone output;
  • equipment.

Flaws

  • weak wireless connection.

Xiaomi Redmi 8 4/64GB

Rating: 4.6

Xiaomi Redmi 8 4/64GB

The representative of the Redmi family produced by Xiaomi will continue the selection. The company has long been trying to separate the budget direction of Redmi into a separate brand, as Huawei more than successfully did with its Honor. This base model (which is neither Note nor Pro) was announced last October 2019. Quite quickly earned serious demand and is still in demand. Some experts even call it «Redmi 8A at maximum speed.»

With the energy potential of the smartphone, the situation here is almost similar to the previous model, that is, more than favorable. The built-in 5000 mAh lithium-polymer battery is also complemented by fast charging via the included high-power charger and progressive USB Type-C connector. We emphasize its progressiveness in such a way, since manufacturers in the pursuit of minimizing the price in budget smartphones until the current 2020 often continued to install outdated microUSB. Xiaomi did not do this, for which we thank them.

The characteristics of the screen in this model are comparable to the previous very bright version. Diagonal size — 6.22 inches, resolution 1520×720, dot density — 270 per inch. The matrix technology is IPS, since OLED screens are not yet very affordable in this price category. With such a screen and battery, the dimensions of the smartphone body are 75.41×156.48×9.4 mm, and the weight is 188 g. This is quite a lot, but almost inevitable with the current level of technology.

The camera configuration here is simpler than that of the Vsmart Joy 3+. The rear unit consists of two modules — the main camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels and a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. A pair of cameras are placed vertically in the upper part of the “back” of the smartphone in the center, and immediately below them is a fingerprint scanner. The resolution of the front camera is 8 megapixels.

In terms of performance, if you look at the pure characteristics, the smartphone lags behind the Vsmart described above. The less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 is installed here, but it is also eight-core. The graphics subsystem is Adreno 505. In terms of memory characteristics, Xiaomi releases two main modifications — with 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of internal memory, respectively. You should not worry too much about storage capacity, as the smartphone supports large memory cards up to 512 GB, and the card reader is dedicated.

Advantages

  • good image quality;
  • fingerprint scanner;
  • dedicated slot for memory cards;
  • support for large cards up to 512 GB;
  • USB Type-C;
  • fast charging.

Flaws

  • there are interruptions in wireless communication;
  • relatively weak processor.

ZTE Blade 20 Smart

Rating: 4.5

ZTE Blade 20 Smart

The third and final smartphone in the budget selection of models with the most powerful batteries is another successful and commercially successful product of the Chinese company ZTE. The manufacturer was previously well known for its inexpensive and high-quality telecommunications equipment, and such a “level up” as smartphones turned out to be a very successful idea for ZTE.

In terms of battery life, this manufacturer also equipped its smartphone with a battery almost to the maximum — 5000 mAh. Naturally, it is non-removable in order to save free space. The smartphone is not even «thick» with such a battery — the dimensions are 76.6×162.9×8.5 mm. It weighs, however, 190 g, but this is quite expected. And again, you can be glad that such an inexpensive model already has a normal wired USB Type-C interface and a fast charging function.

The processor here is a strong middling MediaTek Helio P60 with eight cores. Its closest analogue is Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Of course, Helio P60 loses to the Dragon, but most often it is compared with it. The most popular modification of this smartphone has 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. There is also a card reader that supports high-capacity cards up to 512 GB. It is combined with the second sim card, but at least there is one at all.

The screen of the smartphone is large — 6.49 inches, IPS with a resolution of 1560×720 and a density of 265 pixels per inch. The proportions are 19.5:9. The matrix is surprisingly good, with good color reproduction and contrast. Brightness — about 400 cd / m. sq., in daylight does not go blind at all, and visibility is reduced only in direct sunlight.

The rear trio of camera modules includes: 18 megapixel main camera, 8 megapixel wide-angle and 2 megapixel depth sensor. Front camera — 13 megapixels. The main rear camera is quite ordinary, but the wide-angle was able to attract the attention of experts with unexpectedly noticeably good quality. As for shooting video, this is one of the weakest sides of this model.

Advantages

  • good processor;
  • high speed RAM;
  • good rear camera unit, especially wide-angle;
  • bright screen with a high-quality matrix;
  • card reader up to 512 GB;
  • USB Type-C;
  • fast charging;
  • spectacular body design, several color options.

Flaws

  • poor video quality.

The best mid-range smartphones with the most powerful batteries

In the second selection, we will analyze models that are already a little more expensive and more interesting in terms of characteristics. There is no clear fundamental difference that would draw the line in the class of devices in this case, and the price is determined by a combination of factors.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 4/128GB (NFC)

Rating: 4.9

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 4/128GB (NFC)

Again in the Xiaomi review, and again Redmi, this time the «nine» Note. We emphasize that here we are talking about the regular version without the Pro prefix. Here, even in the name it is emphasized that the smartphone is equipped with an NFC short-range wireless communication module, although in the framework of our review this is not such a curiosity, let’s recall at least the super-budget Vsmart Joy 3+ 4/64GB.

The lithium-ion battery capacity of this model is 5020 mAh. What that extra 20 mAh decides is so crucial is hard to fathom, but the Chinese tech giant may have its own motivation. There is a USB Type-C connector, as well as a quick charge function, and this is the main thing.

Now about the rest. Still, at least within the framework of this review, one clear difference that separates the conditional middle class of smartphones from the budget one can be determined. This is the resolution of the matrix. Here and in the next three models, it will be FullHD + in different variations. Here we have 2340×1080 with a density of 395 with a screen size of 6.53 inches. The matrix is IPS, as with OLED in this price category it is still tense. But the matrix is high-quality and with color reproduction and brightness it has an order.

In this model, the manufacturer has introduced a very solid set of cameras. The rear unit is made up of four components: a 48-megapixel main wide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera and a depth sensor of the same resolution.

The smartphone is quite weighty — 199 g, but this is the norm for such a battery. The case is well stylized as glass, but in fact it is plastic. The case dimensions are 77.2×162.3×8.9 mm. In fairness, it’s worth saying that a macro camera, especially such a “poor” one, is clearly superfluous here — two main cameras will do its job even better for it. The front camera is also decent — 13 megapixels. Video on this smartphone, if you shoot, then do not expect any miracles — in terms of video, this model is not strong.

Another not the strongest quality of this model is the MediaTek Helio G85 processor. On the whole, it is not bad, as for a fairly inexpensive solution (do not forget, this model is the cheapest in the conditional middle class category). But he normally copes only with ordinary applications, even if there are many of them open at the same time. Modern games are no longer up to him, only at the minimum settings.

Advantages

  • high-quality IPS matrix with FullHD + resolution;
  • screen protection — Corning Gorilla Glass 5;
  • technically quite bright cameras (except for shooting video);
  • USB Type-C;
  • NFC
  • infrared port;
  • fast charging.

Flaws

  • there is CPU throttling under load;
  • poor video quality.

OPPO A72 128GB

Rating: 4.8

OPPO A72 128GB

The second in this selection is the smartphone of another very prominent Chinese brand OPPO. The manufacturer itself is even a little underestimated, since the most worthy competitors to the same Xiaomi smartphones come out under the OPPO brand, and the A72 model is a vivid example of this.

The phone is equipped with a 5000 mAh lithium-ion battery. In this configuration, which is very well optimized, such a power rear is capable of providing about 30 hours of talk time over a cellular network, up to 50 hours of audio listening and many hundreds of hours of standby time. The smartphone is equipped with a fast charging function, in which the device is charged by 50% in half an hour, and it will take another hour and a half to fully charge. Connection connector — USB Type-C. Through it, you can charge other gadgets from your phone using the reverse charge function.

The screen here is large — 6.5 inches diagonally, matrix resolution — 2400×1080, dot density — 405 per inch. The screen aspect ratio is 20:9. The matrix is capable of reproducing up to 16.78 million colors. Screen glass — Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with scratch protection.

Let’s pay attention to the configuration of the cameras in this smartphone. The rear unit includes the following components: the main camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels, ultra-wide-angle 8 megapixels, macro camera 2 megapixels and depth sensor 2 megapixels. In general, the rear unit shoots well, especially portraits. In conditions of low light, the Ultra Night 2.0 night mode will come in handy. The front camera is also very good and powerful — 16 megapixels, it can blur the background, creating bokeh.

The overall performance of the smartphone is very good. It is provided by a solid and well-proven Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor on eight cores with Adreno 610 graphics. Fast 4 GB RAM contributes to the speed of work. Built-in storage — 128 GB, plus a dedicated card reader that recognizes memory cards up to 256 GB.

Advantages

  • high resolution matrix;
  • high-quality color reproduction and coverage of a wide range of shades;
  • powerful camera configuration;
  • effective night photography mode Ultra Night 2.0;
  • you can shoot video in 4K;
  • dedicated card reader;
  • Bluetooth 5.0;
  • NFC
  • USB Type-C;
  • fast charging;
  • reverse charge.

Flaws

  • occasionally there are interruptions in the reception of the cellular network.

Samsung Galaxy A31 128GB

Rating: 4.8

Samsung Galaxy A31 128GB

Completing the selection of the best mid-price smartphones with powerful batteries in the thematic review from Expertology magazine is a rather bright model manufactured by Samsung. This is one of the younger models of the Galaxy A series, but even it has some trump cards that attract buyers.

One of these trump cards is determined by the topic of our review. It has a powerful 5000 mAh battery with USB Type-C charging and fast charging function. The battery, combined with the power consumption characteristics of a smartphone, is capable of providing an average of up to 30 hours of talk time or up to 90 hours in terms of listening to audio.

The second distinguishing feature of this model already stands out clearly against the background of neighboring options. Namely, the matrix here is no longer IPS, but AMOLED with all its advantages. Screen size — 6.4 inches, resolution — 2400×1080, dot density — 411 per inch, aspect ratio — 20:9.

We also see decent cameras here. Rear main group: 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra wide-angle, 5MP macro, 5MP depth sensor. Front camera — 20 megapixel resolution with bokeh effect software function. Pictures really come out of decent quality, but shooting video is far from the strongest side of this model.

At the heart of the smartphone’s electronics is a budget, but sufficient for most ordinary tasks, the MediaTek Helio P65 processor on eight cores with a Mali-G52 graphics module. RAM is 4 GB, internal memory — 64 GB. There is also a dedicated card reader that recognizes memory cards up to 512 GB. I must add that in user reviews there is still a percentage of complaints about the Helio P65, they say, this is a very budget option that does not fit with some of the “chips” of this model, for example, with the same AMOLED screen that creates the feeling of “almost a flagship”.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 73.1×159.3×8.6 mm, the weight is 185 g, the case is predominantly plastic in a classic design.

Advantages

  • AMOLED matrix;
  • a high resolution;
  • good cameras;
  • fast charging function;
  • dedicated card reader for cards up to 512 GB;
  • USB Type-C;
  • there is a standard mini jack 3.5 mm for headphones;
  • Bluetooth 5.0;
  • NFC
  • fingerprint scanner under the screen.

Flaws

  • mediocre processor;
  • low video quality.

The best top smartphones with the most powerful batteries

The third selection in the review of the best smartphones with the most capacious batteries according to the online publication Expertology will be dedicated to the real stars of the smartphone market. This will be the most voluminous selection, since it was in relation to the flagships in the past years that most of the negative converged due to the strange savings of manufacturers on batteries. In 2020, this trend has changed a lot, which we strongly welcome.

Xiaomi Mi 10 8/256GB

Rating: 4.9

Xiaomi Mi 10 8/256GB

The first in this collection will be the latest flagship from Xiaomi, which went on sale at the beginning of this year. It is difficult to call it inexpensive, but in comparison, it is really the most inexpensive of all that are included in the selection, and at the same time it demonstrates impressive features and functionality.

First, about the energy part. The smartphone is equipped with a 4780 mAh battery. In expensive flagships, such an accuracy in calculating the capacity is probably important. In practice, this approximately corresponds to 25 hours of reading, 20 hours of watching videos, 8 hours of modern mobile toys. In fast charging mode from zero to 100%, the smartphone is charged in just over an hour. There is also a function of wireless and reverse charging.

Belonging to the premium class is visible here already in the case materials. No plastic anymore, but tempered glass on both sides and a metal frame with mirror polishing around the perimeter. In terms of design, there are no special breakthroughs and experiments — all the same ideas that Xiaomi pursued in previous generations.

The screen is large — 6.67 inches in diagonal. The matrix is high-quality, bright and expressive AMOLED with a resolution of 2520×1080. The pixel density is 386 per inch. We emphasize that the screen refresh rate of this model is 90 Hz, but this is already something.

Cameras also keep up with the overall flagship avant-garde. The rear unit here consists of four components: the main camera with a resolution of 108 megapixels with autofocus and optical stabilization; ultra wide-angle 13 megapixels; a marker camera and a depth sensor of 2 megapixels, respectively.

There are no special questions for photography, here we get the quality of the corresponding flagship level, but without any special miracles. But the video recording deserves separate words. The fact is that this smartphone is capable of shooting video in extremely high quality 8K, and even with an acceptable frequency of 30 or 24 fps. And here an amazing in its paradoxical moment appears. Video in 8K quality, color reproduction is fully adequate. But if you switch to 4K mode, where everything, it would seem, should be simpler, the so-called “Chinese diseases” appear, associated with acidic shades and, in general, not quite adequate color reproduction.

Advantages

  • powerful top processor;
  • Qualcomm Aqstic technology and a number of others for maximum sound quality;
  • powerful and high-quality stereo speakers (separate, without using the spoken);
  • fast and wireless charging;
  • bright AMOLED with high-quality color reproduction;
  • screen refresh rate 90 Hz;
  • high-quality and expressive photography.

Flaws

  • no standard 3.5 mm headphone jack;
  • paradoxically worse color reproduction when shooting video in 4K compared to 8K.

ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro ZS671KS 256GB

Rating: 4.8

ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro ZS671KS 256GB

Let’s raise the conditional price bar a little more and consider a smartphone that was released in the second half of the current 2020. There were just as many rumors associated with him as there were few reliable data, for which he even received for some time the conditional status of the “most secret” expected smartphone. We are talking about ASUS ZenFone 7, namely its Pro version in the ZS671KS modification with 256 GB of internal memory.

If at some stage in the development of this model, ASUS specialists also had doubts about the expected battery capacity, then the trends of the last two years decided everything for them — much less than 5000 mAh in a model of this level would already be considered not comme il faut. So the model received such an impressive battery. However, of the flagship additions, there is only Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 fast charging, and there is no wireless charging.

A large 6.67-inch diagonal screen is in harmony with a high-quality AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2400×1080 with aspect ratio of 20:9 and a dot density of 395 per inch. The screen is protected by the most advanced glass Gorilla Glass 6, and the glass «simpler» Gorilla Glass 3 covers the rear surface. The screen refresh rate is 90 Hz, and the response speed is generally outstanding — 1 ms. Equally remarkable are the color rendering parameters — coverage of 110% DCI-P3 (105% NTSC). Plus an almost unbelievable 700 cd/m. sq. margin of brightness.

Performance indicators here are also respectable. The powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor with Adreno 650 graphics module, created using 7nm process technology, is complemented by ZenUI 7 graphics add-on, so playing modern mobile games on this device is a pleasure. And this, mind you, is not the limit, because there is also the ROG (Republic Of Gamers) family, one of whose representatives will also be discussed further.

Equally outstanding performance, in terms of level and ratio with the average market, is demonstrated by smartphone cameras. The rear unit consists of the following components: the main Sony IMX686 wide-angle camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels with phase detection autofocus and optical stabilization along four axes; 8 megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, 12x digital zoom and optical stabilization; 12MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide with 113° field of view, dual pixel autofocus and 4cm macro capability.

The rear camera can shoot video in 8K up to 30 fps, 4K up to 60 fps, slow motion up to 480 fps, depending on the set resolution. By the way, the camera block is swivel, and the rear camera easily turns into a front camera with the same characteristics.

Advantages

  • high-quality AMOLED matrix with a large margin of brightness;
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for screen protection;
  • powerful productive processor;
  • graphic add-on ZenUI 7;
  • outstanding camera configuration;
  • rotary block of cameras (from the rear orientation to the front);
  • fast charging;
  • wireless and reverse charging.

Flaws

  • no wireless charging.

OnePlus 8 Pro 12/256GB

Rating: 4.7

OnePlus 8 Pro 12/256GB

Our review will continue with a slightly more expensive smartphone from the OnePlus brand, which for many years has not ceased to amaze with its surprisingly high-quality, reliable, powerful and, almost without exception, commercially successful brands of smartphones. This will be the eighth generation of OnePlus in its ultimate Pro version.

In terms of battery capacity, at first glance, the user may be bewildered — 4510 mAh seems to be a kind of limitation. But do not forget that this manufacturer is also known for the high-quality optimization of the electronics of its gadgets. In practice, this battery capacity, according to the results of independent testing, shows such results. In games at maximum speed — about 9 hours, up to 6 hours of watching video in 4K quality at maximum brightness, up to 3 hours in a row of shooting video in 4K quality. Agree, this is more than a worthy result.

The described parameters of autonomy are all the more pleasant to realize, having in this model even such convenient means as fast charging, wireless charging and reverse. By wire, charging from zero to 100% lasts only 1 hour and 15 minutes on average.

The screen here is quite expectedly large — 6.78 inches in diagonal, and is equipped with a top-end AMOLED matrix with exceptional performance. The most obvious thing about this exclusivity is the 3168×1440 resolution. Screen aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The pixel density is outrageous — 513 per inch, the image looks flawless. And even more this perfection is noticeable in the dynamics, since the screen refresh rate here is 120 Hz.

Let’s see what OnePlus has prepared for us in terms of smartphone performance. It has a top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor on eight cores with an Adreno 650 graphics module. RAM is a record 12 GB in this segment. Built-in data storage — 256 GB. Memory cards, unfortunately, are not supported, but this is a typical flagship feature, and nothing can be done about it.

The smartphone demonstrates top performance also where it should have been used for its intended purpose — in wireless communications. The most advanced solutions are installed here — high-speed Bluetooth 5.1; Wi-Fi sixth generation 802.11ax; wide range of LTE bands; 5G support on X55 chipset.

Advantages

  • top quality AMOLED matrix;
  • screen resolution 3168×1440;
  • screen refresh rate 120 Hz;
  • fast charging;
  • wireless and reverse charging;
  • powerful processor and high performance in general;
  • 12 GB of RAM;
  • 5G support on X55 chipset;
  • NFC
  • Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.1.

Flaws

  • memory cards are not supported.

Samsung Galaxy S20+

Rating: 4.7

Samsung Galaxy S20+

Now it’s the turn of the top flagship Samsung Galaxy S20+. This is not the pinnacle of this family in the 2020 series, there is also an Ultra version, but we will not consider it. The exorbitant price is not conducive to mass demand, it is enough just to mention that such an option exists for «wealthy guys».

Let’s start with the characteristics of the battery. Here we also see a picky and thorough approach to calculating the optimal volume without any «reserves» — the capacity of the standard battery here is 4500 mAh. The aforementioned S20 Ultra has a volume increased to 5000 mAh, and here such a resource is quite enough. Battery life is approximately comparable to the previous reviewed model. Flagship «gadgets» are available — fast charging, wireless charging, two separate chargers of different capacities are included in the package.

The screen in this and neighboring Samsung Galaxy S20 models is a complete delight. The high-quality matrix, made using advanced Dynamic AMOLED technology, has a resolution of QHD 3200×1440. The pixel density is top-end, as in the previous model — 524 per inch. And, interestingly, the screen refresh rate is 120 Hz, plus the highest touch sensor polling rate is 240 Hz. It is a pleasure to interact with such a responsive and sensitive touch system. There are some people who do not distinguish between such advantages, but for especially delicate natures, such parameters are just a gift. The screen also supports HDR10+ high dynamic range.

Let’s go through the characteristics of the cameras. The rear unit consists of a main camera of 64 megapixels with optical stabilization, an ultra-wide-angle 12, a “just” wide-angle also with a sensor resolution of 12 megapixels, and a depth sensor. Front camera — 20 megapixels. The cameras are complemented by a range of intelligent software algorithms, many of which are true innovations and know-how without any exaggeration. This is too broad a topic to explain exactly how this smartphone produces such outstanding photos, but Samsung has really achieved technological marvels in this model.

All this electronics and algorithms would be worth nothing if they were not backed up by the most important thing — the power of the central processor, the speed and amount of RAM. And here this is also in order. A high-performance Samsung Exynos 990 eight-core processor with a Mali-G77 MP11 graphics module, plus 8 GB of RAM is definitely a highly productive bunch. Built-in memory provides only 128 GB, but here we are waiting for a gift from Samsung — support for large memory cards up to 1 TB. The slot, however, is combined with the second SIM card, but this can already be forgiven for a smartphone.

Advantages

  • credible brand;
  • full moisture protection IP68;
  • matrix Dynamic AMOLED;
  • matrix resolution QHD 3200×1440;
  • screen refresh rate 120 Hz;
  • touch polling sensor frequency — 240 Hz;
  • HDR10+ support;
  • top powerful processor;
  • fast charging;
  • wireless charger;
  • support for memory cards up to 1 TB.

Flaws

  • unsystematic and non-principled comments and wishes of users.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 16/512GB

Rating: 4.7

ASUS ROG Phone 3 16/512GB

Rounding out Expertology’s most extensive roundup of the best smartphones with powerful batteries is an incredibly powerful machine. Yes, it is a car, because this smartphone certainly does not tolerate compromises. We are talking about the gaming flagship ASUS Rog Phone 3. Of course, it is prohibitively expensive. But this price can only be characterized as high, but certainly not overpriced.

Starting with the characteristics of the battery, let’s say that according to this parameter, the smartphone «asks» to the next review nomination, where the capacity champions will be presented. But since this is still a top flagship with outrageous characteristics, we left it in the «company» of the same stellar solutions.

And the battery capacity here is as much as 6000 mAh. In practice, in this model, such an indicator not only gives a significant battery life, but also the ability to flexibly manage this autonomy. If you use the device as an ordinary smartphone, but with a heavy load — turn on all conceivable and unthinkable messengers, run applications, receive several cellular calls a day, surf the Internet and do other similar things, then the battery will start to run out of charge only by the end of the second day.

As for the flexibility of charge consumption, here the smartphone makes it possible to change the screen hertz modes. Maximum — 144 Hz most intensively «plants» the battery. But even with this mode, when testing with cyclic video, the operating time showed an excellent result — more than 23 hours. By lowering the value, you can significantly increase the battery life.

The screen of this bright model is also bright in every sense — a high-quality AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2340×1080 and a pixel density of 391. The proportions are 19.5:9. About the refresh rate, everything has already been said above — this is really a gaming smartphone, even in terms of such subtle things.

It’s not worth talking about the other multimedia component — cameras — because no one expects top-quality night shooting or any other superpowers in a gaming smartphone. There is a rather ordinary triple rear camera unit here: the main camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels, ultra-wide-angle 13 megapixels, macro camera 5 megapixels. Front camera — 24 megapixels. Despite all the “ordinary” rear cameras, the smartphone easily shoots video in 8K up to 30 fps and 4K up to 60 fps.

And a few words about performance. The powerful top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor with Adreno 650 graphics, combined with 16 GB of RAM, will definitely not leave a chance for any modern mobile game. And although memory cards are not supported here, this is not such a disadvantage, given the amount of internal memory — 512 GB.

Advantages

  • belonging to the legendary ROG series;
  • record battery capacity;
  • flexible control of autonomy through changing the screen hertz;
  • record amount of RAM;
  • variable screen refresh rate up to 144 Hz;
  • high-quality AMOLED matrix;
  • shooting video in 8K up to 30 fps and 4K up to 60 fps;
  • powerful gaming processor;
  • 16 GB of RAM;
  • 512 GB internal memory;
  • overall top gaming performance.

The best smartphones with the most powerful batteries

Rounding out our review of the best smartphones with powerful batteries according to Expertology is a selection of four models that have the most capacious and powerful batteries as of the end of 2020. In the past, smartphones with a larger battery capacity periodically appeared, but these were mostly dubious crafts of little-known Chinese companies that did not inspire confidence.

Here, it’s the complete opposite. The entire podium is occupied by a single manufacturer — Samsung, and the same stellar Galaxy series. And, oddly enough, none of the presented smartphones is a flagship. The installation of such a capacious battery in mid-price models was just a marketing move by a South Korean company. Quite, it must be admitted, a successful move.

Samsung Galaxy M21 4/64GB

Rating: 4.9

Samsung Galaxy M21 4/64GB

The almost budget model M21 will open the final part of the review. «Practically» — because there are even cheaper smartphones with fairly capacious batteries, but for the battery capacity to be 6000 mAh, and the cost of a smartphone, and even Samsung, barely exceeding 15 thousand rubles — this is a unique case.

Yes, indeed, with generally rather modest characteristics, the battery here is really a record one, with which its own “brothers” can compete, which will be discussed later. According to the manufacturer, the potential of a fully charged battery should be enough for 49 hours of talk time and 131 hours of audio listening, and the standby time is not even indicated for obvious reasons.

The given figures are slightly overestimated compared to how the smartphone behaves in real conditions, but in general, autonomy does not disappoint at all. With a conditional “average” intensity of use, you will have to charge your smartphone no more than twice a week.

Naturally, the battery is non-removable, mainly they resort to this in order to minimize the dimensions, and they are acceptable here — 75.1x159x8.9 mm. Surprisingly, such a battery would add a lot of weight to the smartphone, but in fact it weighs 188g, which is less than many flagships with their glass cases, but less capacious batteries.

Wired connection and charging is via USB Type-C, which is also good, since many state employees are still equipped with outdated and non-universal microUSB connectors. Wireless modules — Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC.

Now about other important characteristics of the smartphone. The screen here is 6.4 inches in size, an AMOLED matrix with a playback coverage of 16.78 million colors. FullHD+ 2340×1080 resolution with a pixel density of 403 per inch. Proportions — 19.5:9

The rear camera unit impresses: the main camera is 48 megapixels, the ultra-wide angle is 8 megapixels, the depth sensor is 5 megapixels. The front camera is also very decent — 20 megapixels. On the main camera, you can even shoot video in 4K, but with a frame rate of up to 30 fps. The main camera unit, of course, is not capable of such miracles that flagships give out, but here, too, there are “superpowers”. For example, in low light conditions, the smartphone switches to a special mode when one shot is formed from intermediate shots of the same object captured several times in a row. All this happens at lightning speed and imperceptibly for the user.

Advantages

  • AMOLED matrix;
  • high resolution matrix;
  • wide coverage of color space;
  • powerful rear camera unit;
  • you can record video in 4K;
  • USB Type-C;
  • NFC
  • always on display function;
  • one of the best and most massive user feedback in this price segment.

Flaws

  • there are claims to the quality of cellular communication.

Samsung Galaxy M31 6/128GB

Rating: 4.9

Samsung Galaxy M31 6/128GB

Next we have a significantly more expensive smartphone, but it also boasts much brighter electronics and other characteristics. Its main advantage in this topic — the battery — is exactly the same as the previous model, and we will not focus on it, everything has already been said.

So, let’s start with performance, since even at first glance it seems that a very fast processor is definitely behind 6 GB of RAM. But in fact, no — everything is controlled by exactly the same single-chip system as the previous smartphone — the eight-core Samsung Exynos 9611 processor with Mali-G72 MP3 graphics. Built-in memory — 128 GB, plus a dedicated card reader for memory cards up to 512 GB.

This model also took everything good from the previous one in terms of screen characteristics. Its dimensions are 6.4 inches diagonally. A high-quality AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2340×1080 reproduces up to 16.78 shades. The pixel density is high — 403 per inch, the image is as natural as possible with rich, vibrant colors. Screen aspect ratio is 19.5:9.

In terms of photo and video shooting, this model is significantly ahead of the previous one, if you look at the formal characteristics. The rear camera block is represented by four modules: the main camera with a resolution of 64 MP with an aperture of F / 1.80; ultra-wide-angle sensor resolution 8 megapixels with aperture F / 2.20; 5 megapixel macro camera with f/2.20 aperture; a depth sensor with the same resolution of 5 megapixels, but with a different aperture — F / 2.40.

The main rear camera is equipped with tenacious autofocus. Despite all the criticism that is heard against many modern smartphones with separate macro cameras, in this case, such a module makes at least some sense thanks to a resolution of 5 megapixels. Many smartphones in the budget and mid-price segment get a “macro” of 2 megapixels, and then often the really adjacent ultra-wide angle is literally better at macro photography. The rear camera can shoot video in 4K, but with a frame rate of no more than 30 fps. The front selfie camera is also outstanding here — 32 megapixel sensor resolution.

Separately, it is worth mentioning in a positive way the fact that the manufacturer graciously left in this model a standard 3.5mm mini-jack headphone output and provided an NFC short-range wireless communication module with support for contactless payment, but only Google Pay.

Advantages

  • high-quality AMOLED matrix;
  • powerful cameras;
  • you can record video in 4K;
  • dedicated card reader for memory cards up to 512 GB;
  • USB Type-C;
  • NFC
  • fast charging.

Flaws

  • Samsung Pay is not working.

Samsung Galaxy M31s 6/128GB

Rating: 4.8

Samsung Galaxy M31s 6/128GB

Let’s continue the selection with another Samsung Galaxy, which can generally be suspected of completely copying the closest «brother» in the model line, which we described above. In the name, the difference between them is in a single index «s». In practice, these two models really do not differ much, but we still consider it necessary to include it in the review — it cannot be ruled out that these minimal differences will determine your preference in one direction or another.

Let’s leave performance aside right away, since smartphones are really identical in this regard. The most noticeable differences literally lie on the surface — these are the dimensions and characteristics of the screen. The diagonal here is slightly larger than the previous version — 6.46 inches. The pixel density is not affected — 407 per inch. The thing is that with an increase in the diagonal, the manufacturer also increased the resolution of the matrix along the long side — 2400×1080. The aspect ratio of the screen has also changed — 20:9. The type of matrix itself remained the same — AMOLED, which, of course, pleases.

With such screen characteristics, the dimensions of the smartphone have grown to 74.4×159.3×9.3 mm. The thickness in this case was obviously determined by the battery. Recall that here it also has a capacity of 6000 mAh, which implies the need for recharging at moderate operating loads no more than twice a week. It supports fast charging via the USB Type-C interface and a bundled charger with increased power up to 15 W, so the discharge problem in this model is leveled to almost imperceptible. The same can be said about all the smartphones in this collection.

Changes in the s version affected not only the screen, but also the cameras. The rear unit here also consists of four modules, but they are different than in the Samsung Galaxy M31. So, if the main camera here is the same — with a sensor resolution of 64 megapixels, then the ultra-wide angle is already much more advanced — 12 megapixels. The macro camera and the depth sensor are the same — 5 megapixels of sensor resolution and similar apertures. The front camera is also similar — 32 megapixels.

Advantages

  • increased screen size;
  • AMOLED matrix;
  • high resolution;
  • USB Type-C;
  • powerful rear camera unit;
  • front camera 32 megapixels;
  • fast charging.

Flaws

  • user complaints about poor equipment (no headphones, not even a simple case).

Samsung Galaxy M51 6/128GB

Rating: 4.7

Samsung Galaxy M51 6/128GB

And the absolute champion of the review in this part will complete the selection of smartphones with the most powerful batteries. In the Samsung Galaxy M51, the battery can easily compete in capacity with batteries for not the smallest tablet PCs — as much as 7000 mAh.

Recall that smartphones with an even larger battery capacity have appeared on the market before, and they can probably still come across sporadically on sale, but they do not stand up to criticism in terms of all other characteristics. In this case, we are dealing with the original experiment of Samsung — this model in this form was conceived as a «freestanding», which will attract the attention of a select part of the audience and will not grab it from the upcoming flagships of the South Korean company.

The gigantic capacity battery could not but affect the weight of the smartphone — 213 g, it is really heavy. Not to say that this really repels buyers, but the reviews often and directly state this. Its dimensions are 76.3×163.9×9.5 mm. The case is plastic, and at this moment there are also dissatisfied. But here it’s rather a plus, since it’s hard to imagine how much the smartphone would weigh if a glass case were added to it.

The camera configuration of this model completely repeats the previous smartphone, and we will not repeat it. That’s where it would be worthwhile to dwell in more detail, so it’s on the screen. Here, the manufacturer did not stint not just on an AMOLED matrix, but on a good AMOLED matrix, namely, on Super AMOLED Plus with excellent characteristics of a margin of brightness, color reproduction and safety for the eyes. Resolution is 2400×1080. With a screen size of 6.7 inches diagonally, this provides a pixel density of 393 per inch. Far from a record, but not at all a small figure — the picture is guaranteed to look natural, without distinguishable pixels.

Without a doubt, the performance deserves praise. The processor here costs a lot, not a little Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, in which the G index stands for Gaming. In this particular case, this simply means an overclocked 730th «dragon» with Adreno 618 graphics. Overclocking by 15%, and precisely to get the most out of working with three-dimensional graphics in games.

Finally, a few more words about the energy side of the smartphone. It, of course, is equipped with a fast charging function via a USB Type-C port and a bundled high-power charger. On a full charge, the smartphone can work in audio listening mode up to 180 hours (on average) or in video playback mode for about 30 hours with the screen at maximum brightness. In half an hour of fast charging from zero, the battery is charged by approximately 30%.

Advantages

  • record battery capacity;
  • Super AMOLED Plus matrix with enhanced brightness and color margin;
  • shooting video in 4K;
  • photo quality;
  • support for large memory cards;
  • high performance in games (adapted processor);
  • NFC module;
  • fast charging function.

Flaws

  • user claims that the case is plastic;
  • heavy.
