Top 10 New iPhone Features (iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X) | Articles | Phones

Finally, the most anticipated smartphones of this fall hit the shelves — the 2017 iPhone collection. On September 12, Apple celebrated the tenth anniversary year of the iPhone with its presentation in California. It’s hard to believe, but these smartphones, which have become an integral part of our daily lives, appeared only 10 years ago. But during this time, the company has made a huge step forward, and today we look at the new features that Apple has endowed with the anniversary series of smartphones. Some of them appeared for the first time, others are reworked and supplemented ideas that have already been noted on other devices. But, perhaps, everyone will agree with one statement — the iPhone really showed us the technologies of the future.
iPhone X — Face ID
We have already seen this technology on other devices, but it has never been so well thought out and layered. Facial recognition in the new iPhone 10 is a complex process that surprisingly happens in an instant. It is called Face ID, and provides an absolutely unique level of user data protection thanks to the unique TrueDeph camera. The camera is placed above the screen, that is, it occupies the top panel; using infrared dots, a model of the owner’s face is created, which is the password for accessing the smartphone.
What is really interesting is that this camera cannot be deceived with a photo and even a cast of the owner’s face. To do this, Apple has partnered specifically with manufacturers of realistic silicone masks for Hollywood.
The probability of matching data is 1 in a million, which is considered much more reliable than Touch ID, familiar to us from previous iPhone models.
ApplePay can also be used with Face ID, similar to how it was previously used with Touch ID.
At the same time, according to the manufacturers, the iPhone 10 easily recognizes its owner, regardless of the change in hairstyle, the presence of glasses or hats. This technology is really worth attention and is qualitatively different from everything that was offered to us before.
Super Retina Display
Most users expected that with the new series of iPhone smartphones, Apple will follow the example of competitors and replace the display with AMOLED. However, the company is in no hurry to renounce the usual high-quality Retina displays, offering a new step in their development — Super Retina. In fact, this is an augmented version of the familiar OLED displays, which offers improved color reproduction, moderate brightness and a wider range of colors. Display resolution on iPhone 10 is 2436×1123. And there are 458 pixels for every inch.
The contrast of this screen is also attractive — 1,000,000:1. Of course, you can only truly appreciate the image quality when you pick up the iPhone 10. However, it is clear that Apple is striving to make the process of playing and watching movies from a smartphone even more enjoyable and unique experience for the user.
The Super Retina display also supports 3D touch, which was introduced with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. All three of the new iPhones — 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X are equipped with this display.
Wireless charger
This is not to say that wireless device charging is a new feature. Many smartphones released in 2017 are already equipped with it. But for the iPhone, this is really a novelty — users can now charge their devices using Qi wireless technology. To do this, just put the smartphone on a special rug and just wait for a full charge.
The new iPhones only work with Qi (other profiles are at least not yet available), however, at the presentation, the manufacturers noted that they are collaborating with leading accessory manufacturers in order to make wireless charging available everywhere. Of course, we will have to wait and maybe quite a long time, but it’s nice to know that in the future we will have the opportunity to go to a cafe or bar, put our smartphone on the mat on the table and charge it. The main thing is not to confuse the charging mat with the cup holder.
Processor A11 bionic
Despite the fact that many of us do not pay much attention to what kind of processor runs inside the smartphone, it is one of the most important elements that are responsible for the performance of the device. And at the very least, the high-speed operation of the fancy TrueDepth camera should be encouraging in this regard. If you watched the presentation or heard about it, you probably know that face recognition of the owner in the form in which it was presented by Apple is a serious process that required the creation of a special neural network. And the processor is responsible for all this. It also allows Face ID to use machine learning functions and adapt to changes in the owner’s appearance.
The A11 is a really powerful chip that can run up to 600 billion processes per second. Therefore, it will easily provide fast games and applications, multitasking and, in principle, everything that you want to get from your smartphone.
Completely redesigned interface
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are all the same smartphones we are used to. But the iPhone X model is seriously different from all its predecessors. And it’s not just a completely updated appearance. It’s a completely redesigned interface. The first thing that immediately catches your eye is the lack of a home button. A button that is responsible for many of the processes that we perform every day. The revised design required a number of changes. Now the main gesture to control the iPhone has become “swipe up”. It is difficult to say how quickly we will get used to this innovation — the manufacturers have assured that all iPhone fans will like the change.
portrait lighting
It’s no secret that the emergence and popularization of mobile photography as a genre and art is largely the merit of the iPhone. Apps like Instagram were originally developed specifically for the AppStore. And of course, the company strives to maintain its own quality standards by providing us with better cameras and more features every year. In 2017, Apple introduced new lighting options for portrait photography. The new mode allows you to revisit the light in the photo in much the same way as photographers do it in the studio. For the first time, iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X users will be able to create bokeh and work with depth of field in photos.
Animoji — animated emoticons
One of the more entertaining features designed specifically for the iPhone X is animated emoji. Using the TrueDepth camera, the smartphone will be able to read the user’s emotions and transport them to an animated emoticon. In this way, you can record a short video and send it to a friend via Messages, or simply express your reaction to the message.
Camera
The portrait camera has undergone changes, but the main camera of the iPhone has not been left without attention. So it supports optical and digital zoom without loss of quality — a feature that will provide even more options for all lovers of mobile photography. 10x zoom will be available when taking photos and 6x when shooting video. The dual camera includes a wide-angle and a telephoto lens. The aperture of the first is f/1.8, the second is f/2.4. This, in conjunction with an improved aperture matrix, will allow you to get better quality in low light. And the optical stabilization function will allow you to get sharp photos. So there is definitely something for amateur photographers to look forward to with the new iPhone lineup.
Full glass body
For the first time, the iPhone has ditched the aluminum chassis we’ve become accustomed to in favor of a new, surprisingly durable tempered glass. Now the glass is located both on the screen and on the back panel. Of course, manufacturers have made sure that your iPhone is not afraid of scratches and drops. It is worth noting that this design technique is not new. Similarly, at the beginning of the year, Samsung did so, so we could only expect that Apple would follow the successful example of its colleagues.
The case, according to Apple, is protected from water and dust at a microscopic level. The manufacturers did not go into details, but we assume that this is good news for anyone who likes to take their iPhone on trips or often drops it in water.
iOS 11
iOS 11 was introduced back in June, but it won’t be available until September 19th. It should be the next operating system update for all iPhones.
Now is the time to remember the new features that were promised to us. For example, a more lively and natural Siri. Of course, she will still joke, but we were also promised that she would become smarter. Siri will now be able to translate English to a range of other languages (Chinese, French, Spanish, German, and Italian) on the go and will work better with Apple Music. Also, thanks to machine learning functions, it will be able to remember the preferences of the smartphone owner and, based on them, make recommendations and offer news.
There will be more opportunities for convenient organization of applications — advanced settings for the control center. And the Lock Screen will be combined with the notification center. Drag and drop will allow you to transfer files from one application to another. The Notes or Notes application will be able to scan and recognize handwritten texts. The Files app will replace iCloud Drive. In terms of functionality, it is more similar to Finder from Mac OS and is designed to work with documents.
The design of the operating system relies more on clear lines, although externally as a whole, it remains almost unchanged.
iOS 11 is available to update on supported devices starting September 19th.
iPhone X has definitely taken its place at the top of the model line, however, you should not immediately write off its younger brothers — iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. They have many of the features that the iPhone X has, and they’ll be available at the same price.
In the meantime, we can only look forward to the appearance of all new products from Apple in retail, and even then it will be possible to confidently say whether the most popular smartphones of our time have coped with the difficult task of confirming their status in the anniversary year.
