More Gadgets for Cops in the UK

I bet US cops envy those in the UK. Their gadget arsenal consists of more than just shiny new Magnum Boots, but mobile fingerprint scanners as well. Dubbed as Project Midas, UK cops will be equipped with mobile fingerprint scanners that will allow them to conduct identity checks while patroling the streets. For those concerned with personal privacy, UK cops insist that the fingerprint scanned on these mobile fingerprint scanners will not be stored or added in any databases. They insist that the fingerprint scanners will only be used to identify potential suspects when their identity cannot be established.
The project costs £30 millionto £40 million during the initial phase only. Deployment will be within 18 months. And as if mobile fingerprint scanners weren't enough, they'd also be deploying facial recognition systems. Hmm, we'll probably see them touting expensive cameras soon. Lucky cops...
That's a lot of money for such a device. You could employ around 120 new policemen/women for 10 years with that kind of money. Surely this would be better use of the money.
