Pimp Your Skateboard
Skateboards and tech geeks rarely mix and match. I mean, let’s face it, there’s not much that a tech geek can do with a skateboard. Unlike cars, you really can’t fit a GPS navigation system on your skateboard or a satellite radio, entertainment system, or a car PC. Heck, you’d have to be nuts to place your iPod on your board.
Sure, you can customize your skateboard. If you head on over to warehouseskateboards.com, you can build your own skateboard complete with griptapes but you’re only limited to the design of your skateboard. I guess a tech geek will prefer segways over skateboards but thanks to the guys over at popsci.com, you can now do more than design your skateboards.
Someone over at popsci was able to build a motorized skateboard. The motorozied skateboard built by John Carnett can go as fast as 20mph and can steer like a conventional skateboard. It does look cool and has a segway kind of feel to it.
And I just thought of a way to make it more geeky: LED lights. You can find a variety over at brando.com.hk. The conventional LED badge might do. And if you can’t make something of this sort since this is too technical for you, maybe you can just forego the motor, just build your customized skateboard and then add the LED lights for effect.
