Norton Antivirus 2009
Every year, antivirus manufacturers come up with "new" antivirus software that corresponds to the present year. For those of you thinking that upgrading to the latest version would lead to a better antivirus protection, I'm sure you're mistaken. As long as you keep updating your antivirus software (and as long as the software company provides supported update) then there's no need to always upgrade to the latest version.
Anyways, though I'm not really a fan of Norton, I was able to download Norton Antivirus 2009 so I tried it out for a few days.I'm kinda weary of Norton since their Internet Security Suite always takes a toll on my PC's resources. I was expecting a lot from this software since Download.com's review of this says that it's "fast and quick". Well, I installed it on my Quad Core PC and I don't know what kind of processor download.com is using but like Norton's Internet Security suite, it slows down my PC (maybe it's because I've only installed 1 GB of memory). But then again, that's no excuse. My previous PC only has 512MB of memory but TrendMicro's Internet Security runs flawlessly o it.
The Norton Antivirus 2009 seems to be incompatible with some software. The good thing is that it updates itself every 15 minutes or so but I highly doubt that hackers can come up with a new virus every fifteen minutes so I totally find that unnecessary and again, its constant updating also uses up a lot of memory.
All in all, for $49, I guess I'll pass. I'm better off with AVG or if I really want a commercial Antivirus, I think I'll just stick with TrendMicro.
