How to Use Your Motorola Phone as a Modem

I have previously owned the Motorola E770 and as much as I really liked the phone since it's cheap but has a good music playing capability, already has 3G and is one of the few entry-level phones which supports Bluetooth A2DP profile, I was disappointed by the fact that it came with no CD whatsoever. I wanted to use the 3G capability and use my phone as a modem but my PC keeps asking me for compatible motorola usb drivers in order for it to read the device. If you use the mass storage capability of the phone, you won't need the motorola drivers but once you set it off, the PC would start asking you for compatible drivers or a CD.

Naturally, I googled on how to have my PC communicate with my Motorola E770 so I can use it as modem and if Nokia phones have their PC Suite, and windows mobile device have their ActiveSync software, Motorola phones need the the Motorola Mobile Phone Tools. This software contains the drivers that would let you use your phone as a modem. Unfortunately again for Motorola, if you don't have a CD that comes with your phone, you need to buy the software at the Motorola store which can set you back around $40. It's a good thing that one of my friends have a Motorola phone that came with a CD so I was able to borrow it, and install it on my PC. Set-up is pretty much straightforward. Once you set up your phone, you just need to click on a little icon which looks like a globe and you're going to be automatically connected to the internet using your Motorola phone as a modem.
