Star Trek like School Desks

Wow, now only if they can make a similar thing like this to our office computer desks, then maybe that would help me come to the office more frequently. Scientists from the University of Durham are in the process of developing the world’s first interactive classroom. The researchers are calling this interactive classroom solution, SynergyNet and at the core of this solution is a multi-touch desk which acts similar to the iPhone.

These desks will be linked to a main smartboard so students and teachers will be able to collaborate more rather than have a teacher-centric classroom environment. Of course, the fact that you have a huge iPhone-like device in front of you could pique anyone’s interest and increase the learning process.

Oh, and here’s the best part, hold on to your office chairs: once the researchers have tested the system, they will make the software available to schools for free as open source code (take that, Microsoft).
